Fighting the building on the greenbelt in Pucklechurch, Shortwood, Siston, and Westerleigh

South Gloucestershire Council have identified a number of sites throughout Pucklechurch, Shortwood, Siston and Westerleigh that they feel would be suitable for housing, which as a total comes to 3,265 new houses. This includes a considerable amount of development in the greenbelt.

The plan includes sites of up to 1,345 houses in and around Shortwood, 750 at land north of Lyde Green, 970 at land north of the A420 and South of Goose Green and 110 houses at the Saw Mills, Bath Road, Bridgeyate. There are also a few smaller proposed sites at the land east of Abson Road in Pucklechurch and around London Road in Warmley.

Increasing the number of houses by building on our precious greenbelt land, would increase pressure on our health services and our road network. The proposals would create more congestion and raise issues about road safety and the impact on local pollution levels. Our villages are historic, which do not have the infrastructure to support such large-scale development, and we are calling on Liberal Democrat run South Gloucestershire Council to reconsider their plans.

Our Greenbelt is under threat. We believe further development should be confined to brownfield sites and urban infill connected to major transport routes. We need your views on the potential sites which equal over 3,200 new houses, so we can demonstrate the community’s views clearly to decision makers at the Council.

If you can fill in the 60-second survey below, sharing your thoughts, together we can fight these unacceptable proposals to build thousands of potential new houses throughout Pucklechurch, Shortwood, Siston, Warmley and Westerleigh.
