The Chase and Frome House to go on the market
At 5th October’s meeting of South Gloucestershire Council’s Resources Sub-Committee, Councillors agreed to put the sites of The Chase (Tenniscourt Road, Kingswood) and Frome House (Cranleigh Court Road, Yate) up for sale, on the condition that the first priority should be to ensure, if possible, that the two sites are to be used for care homes once more.
The two sites have been disused for a number of years and both care homes have long since been demolished. As such the Sub-Committee has declared both sites surplus to requirements and will be seeking partners to develop new care homes on them.
The Council Savings Programme, agreed by all parties in the last Council, identifies around £36m worth of savings required to be made by the Council. This includes £20m to come from the disposal of Council-owned property, as an alternative to service cuts.
Speaking of the decision, Conservative Council Deputy Leader and Chair of the Resources Sub-Committee Cllr John Goddard (Hanham) point out: “these sites have been demolished and left vacant for some time. In order to best secure frontline services and also to boost the number of care home places available it is vital we get these sites back into circulation and find partners willing to help us develop them into suitable places for our elderly and vulnerable to receive care.”
