Conservative Candidate for Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner
Mark Weston
I am a family man living in Bristol with my wife and two children. I am the Leader of the Conservative Group on Bristol City Council and a member of the Police and Crime Panel that scrutinises the current Commissioner.
I am a hard worker who has campaigned across the region, from Burnham-on-Sea to Brisol, from Yeovil to Bath.
I am standing because of my firm belief in the importance of community based policing. There are those that will argue that ‘bobbies on the beat’ do little to cut crime rates but I disagree. I believe that they are vital for restoring public confidence, cutting anti-social behaviour and reducing re-offending.
I have always believed that prevention is better than cure. Visible policing provides a constant reminder of the rule of law to all those that would seek to break it and it is this model that is now under threat, but is one that we shouldn’t walk away from.
My priorities:
Fair Funding for Avon & Somerset
Keeping Policing visible
Putting the community at the heart of the Police
Work with other authorities to share costs – in order to protect the front line
Empowering and devolving local decision making
