Rock Street Height Barrier Success
Local Councillor David Chubb (Con, Thornbury North) has praised South Gloucestershire Council today for their swift action in installing a new height barrier in Thornbury’s busy Rock Street Car Park after raising the issue of its misuse last month.
Following Thornbury residents’ concerns that the Car Park had recently been misused as an illegal encampment during the summer, Cllr Chubb began pressing Council officers for measures to be taken to prevent the incident reoccurring in future. One option David proposed was the implementation of a Height Barrier which the Council has now accepted and in place.
Welcoming the new prevention measures Cllr David Chubb (Con, Thornbury North) said;
“I’m glad that the Council has acted swiftly in listening to the residents’ concerns on this one. I think the height barrier strikes a healthy balance between deterring illegal encampments whilst ensuring local shoppers and residents can still park for free and can continue to support our much loved high street.”
Council Leader Matthew Riddle (Con, Severn) congratulating David on his efforts said; “I’d like to thank David for getting this done so quickly. The car park is essential to the health of our high street so I’m delighted to see David has taken steps to make sure it can’t be used a temporary caravan park again in the future.”
