Bus fares campaigner meets South Glos councillors
Dan Farr congratulated by Council Leader and Transport Chairman
Local bus fares petitioner Dan Farr has taken his campaign to South Gloucestershire Council.
Mr Farr met recently with Conservative Group and Council Leader John Calway (Longwell Green) and Conservative Transport Lead Member and Committee Chair Brian Allinson (Stoke Gifford) as part of his Make Fares Fair campaign, which has resulted in First launching a review of its prices.
Speaking after the meeting, Dan Farr said: “The meeting went well and I'm pleased that these South Gloucestershire councillors are supporting my petition objectives and want to work with neighbouring authorities to achieve them.”
Cllr Calway said:
“It was a pleasure to meet Dan and he is to be congratulated for all his hard work in raising the issue of the affordability of public transport and encouraging First to review its fare prices.”
Cllr Allinson added:
“Any initiative that will help the bus operators to better understand the needs of their passengers is to be welcomed. We encourage people in South Gloucestershire to take part in this consultation and trust that First will take people’s views into account when making changes to bus fares. Making bus travel attractive to more people reduces congestion on our roads which businesses tell us is one of the key obstacles to business growth and the creation of new jobs.”
Cllr Allinson is now helping Mr Farr to attend and address the next meeting of the West of England’s Joint Transport Executive Committee, which Cllr Allinson also Chairs.
