Call for energy switch service
Councillor campaigns for lower energy bills
An energy switching service should be set up by South Gloucestershire Council to help lower household energy bills, according to a leading councillor.
A number of local councils around the country have each set up a ‘collective energy switching service’ which enables gas and electricity consumers living locally to combine their purchasing power and get a better deal on their bills.
And now Cllr Matthew Riddle (Con, Severn), Conservative Lead Member on the authority’s Adults & Housing Committee, is calling on South Gloucestershire Council to follow suit and promote its own local scheme.
He said:
“We need to do what we can to assist local households with the cost of living.
Freezing council tax was a start, but helping them to keep their energy bills as low as possible through offering a ‘collective energy switching service’ would be another boost.
South Gloucestershire Council should follow other councils and introduce a service to benefit local residents.”
