Helping to deliver an Aerospace Museum to house Concorde is the centre piece of a £206million capital investment programme approved at meeting of all councillors this evening (Wednesday 18th March).
Funding from the City Region Deal means that £1.1m can be contributed to the Bristol Aero Collection Trust to help develop a new aerospace museum and learning centre in Filton, which will also house Concorde.
Other approved funding includes:
· constructing a major part of the North Fringe to Hengrove rapid transit system;
· setting aside up to £5.5million to deliver the long-overdue expansions of Longwell Green and Bradley Stoke Leisure Centres in partnership with the Circadian Trust;
· allocating a minimum of £1.5 million to help deliver more extra care housing schemes so that we have a fair spread of these facilities across the district;
· completing the Cadbury Heath’s flagship new £2miilion community and youth building;
· £600,000 towards completing the funding package to make safety improvements at the notorious A4174 Wraxall Road roundabout junction;
· £350,000 to improve broadband speeds in rural areas as part of match-funding the new broadband funding from government;
· an additional £200,000 of targeted funding to resurface residential cul-de-sacs and estate roads;
· £100,000 towards completing the funding package for a flagship new skate park in Bradley Stoke;
Speaking after the meeting, Cllr John Goddard, Conservative Lead Member for Resources and Chairman of the authority’s Resources Sub Committee said:
“As well as helping us to celebrate our aerospace heritage, these approved capital investment priorities respond to the opportunities and challenges that face us, including promoting growth in our local economy, transforming local community facilities and maintaining the area as a great place to live and work.
He added:
“Conservative councillors pushed strongly for various capital priorities and we’re pleased that our demands have been met, including £350,000 towards additional broadband improvements in our rural areas.
