South Gloucestershire Councillor for Severn Vale Ward (The Parishes of Almondsbury, Alveston, Olveston, Aust, Oldbury, Hill and Rockhampton)
Matthew has built up a strong reputation as an effective campaigner for local people championing many local issues and getting results. Matthew was born and brought up in the constituency and was educated locally, including St Mary’s and Castle School. He lectures in Agriculture to degree level and his interests include gardening, making cider, local and family history, enjoys playing tennis and whist.
He has lived in the constituency his whole life and since 2003 has represented the Severn Vale Ward on South Gloucestershire Council.
Matthew comments, “I am a strong believer in public service and passionate about achieving results for my community. As a Councillor I believe I have demonstrated that I can get things done, whether protecting the Green Belt, making roads safer, better broadband, improvements to drainage (both highway and land) and dealing with hundreds of individual issues.”
Matthew is a Lead Member on the Scrutiny Commission and also serves on the Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee. He also represents the Council on the Lower Severn Internal Drainage Board, Oldbury Power Station Stakeholder Group and The Nuclear Legacy Forum.
